Walking in two months? Thats a pipe dream, so I need your help

So according to my MRI yesterday here is my list of issues:
 Multiple fractures
 Tissue damage
 Swollen tisue
Swollen bones (didn't know bones could swell)
 Tendon damage

Long story short, its gonna be a lot longer than 2 months. Should have suspected so when the Dr. gave me handicapped parking through June.

Here's how I need your help, any recommendations for good dog books to read? I know I can only stare at the TV for so long and I love reading but need some suggestions. I'm also thinking of taking up knitting since its something I can do while sitting in front of the TV. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Also, if you have the time vote for Baily in the Bissell MVP contest. She would appreciate it :)

oh and for those who wanted the sellers name I left a comment to my last post with it :)

I can't believe it caused so much damage! Did they catch the person who did this? I really liked "The Social Life of Dogs" which talks about how dogs form packs and hierarchies. Though it angers a lot of people because the writer is not a responsible dog owner.

I liked "Pack of Two" by Caroline Knapp.

My Mommy loves to knit. We hope that the next 2 months pass quickly. We can't think of very many dog books but Mommy says The Hunger Games and Catching Fire are great reads,

I haven't started it yet, but I have "Inside of a Dog: What Dogs See, Smell, and Know" by Alexandra Horowitz. Maybe you can tell me if it's good!

(I voted for Baily! My paws are crossed that she wins!)

I always enjoy anything by Patricia McConnell (sp?). "If a Dog's Prayers were Answered, Bones Would Rain From the Sky" by Suzanne Clothier is another one of my favorites.
I'm so sorry you have to go through this. Because of my illness and subsequent disability I took up sewing and I really enjoy it!

How awful@! We were wondering the same thing - do you have any info on this person who was so stupid? She has a very big responsibility here.

We wish we had some suggestions for reading for you. Hope you can find some.

Woos and happy weekend, Phantom and Thunder

I enjoyed Merle's Door, a couple of years old, if you haven't read that. Also, a real oldie but goodie, Nop's Trial, by McCaig. If you get tired of dog books, I am a librarian, drop me a note and tell me what else you like and I can try and help.

Look on Amazon for Ken Foster. He is a pit bull rescuer and his books are great. Don't last long though because you can't put them down!

"The Dog Who Spoke with God" was awesome too. I still think of that book often.

"Amazing Gracie" is one of my all time favorites. It's one you'll read over and over.

Wow, that sucks!!

I don't have any dog book recommendations, but if you don't have Netflix already, I would recommend it, not for the actual DVDs, but because you can now watch movies streaming on-line (which is what I do). Unlimited on-line viewing is included in the membership (around $10/month) and there are tons of movies and TV shows that you can watch one after the other immediately.

Also, maybe crossword puzzles, writing the great American novel, learning a new software program (you can get completely absorbed in editing movies using iMovie, and it's really easy!)

Good luck!!!

I'll second the vote for Patricia McConnell books. I just finished The Other End of the Leash. Very interesting because it's about how dogs respond much more to our body language than our words. It was quite eye-opening. And if you like scary fiction books, Dean Koontz has a book called Watchers that has a Golden Retreiver with almost human intelligence due to lab experiments. I know it sounds hokey but it's one of my favorites, give it a try. And here are some more on my list to read:
Canine Body Language, a Photographic Guide" by Brenda Aloff

The Power of Positive Dog Training 2nd Edition

Don't Shoot the Dog by Karen Pryor

I hope you heal quickly, it's just terrible that person can't be held accountable..

I'm so sorry to read about your foot! Those LA drivers! We're actually going to be down in your neck of the woods next week--my sister lives by The Grove.

As for books, I just finished A Big Little Life by Dean Koontz, about a career changed dog the author adopted from Canine Companions (our dog Cabana is also career changed--but from Guide Dogs for the Blind). This is about the actual dog who the dog in Watchers is based upon.

Another great dog book, which you might enjoy having just added Carl to your pack, is The Dogs Who Found Me, by Ken Foster, about a guy who picks up strays.

I also enjoyed Merle's Door: Lessons from a Freethinking Dog, by Ted Kerasote, which was already referred to. And Patricia McConnell's books are great also, but are more how-to, rather than novels per se.

Hope your foot mends quickly!

Oh gosh, that is unfortunate!

For books, any of the dog books by Mark Derr are fun. Ken Foster has two rescue books with lots of Pit Bulls in them. Bandit is an interesting read - Hearne is a bit verbose. The Culture Clash is an interesting read. Karen Pryor has some good dog books. Dogs Never Lie About Love is good too.

For knitting, try Stitch 'n Bitch!

That is awful! My mom broke both bones in her leg once and was on crutches/in a cast/brace for over 6 months so she totally gets it! Hopefully your leg will heal quickly!

Oh yuck! That sounds terrible. I hope you don't get the cabin fever too bad. Momma recommends books by Susan Conant. They have lots of doggie action and good mysteries too.

Adventures with Ari by Kathryn Miles. Also, The Dangerous Book for Dogs is pretty funny. We hope you heal up quick :(

Oh how awful! Get better soon. Have you read Jon Katz, he has written quite a few great books. Also A Three Dog Life is good, not so much a dog book but a great story, Sight Hound by Pam Houston. Let me know if you want more suggestions. I have a large library of dog centric books.

I just heard about another book from a friend, and it's now on my list: Wolf in the Parlor, by Jon Franklin. He's a science writer and he explores the bond between humans and dogs. Again, I haven't read it yet, so I can vouch for it!
