So a couple days after we got home I went to go to bed and couldn't find Baily. After looking in the guest room I saw this:She most have known I was blogging about her in the closet!

Gotta love bullysticks

So tonight we went to a free concert in a park in our neighborhood. I wanted to take the puppies with us but last time there was just so much activity and food! The concert is at 6pm and everyone brings a picnic. So on the way home today I stopped by the store to pick up a couple bully sticks for the dogs to chew on during the concert. While the 12 inch ones only last an hour max in our house it was really nice to be able to sit in the park with the pups and listen to the band. We also received lots of complements from people on how well behaved they are!

Tuesday night romp

We took the girls to the preserve near our house today. They had a lot of fun hiking and found this nice little hut to hang out it (obviously someone had extra time on their hands earlier that day).
I have to say I really missed the girls while I was in Alaska. There is nothing like coming in the front door and seeing their smiling faces and wagging tails. Though we do have some work to do with Mesa as she has now decided that tackling people is an appropriate greeting.

Oh the memories

So being back in AK is bringing back memories. My favorite is thinking about how the dogs used to sleep in our closet at night. This was a choice they made, not us. You see, we used to store our extra feather bed and comforters on the floor of our closet. One night, after a little too much wine I fell asleep before crating the girls. When I woke up in the morning, I found them looking all cozy in the piles of blankets/feather beds.

The next night when I went up to go to bed, the girls raced up ahead of me and buried themselves in the closet. For over a year this is how they slept. When we bought the house in AK we reconstructed this arrangement for them and they loved it. Sadly, in Cali we are not able to have this setup but the girls are just as happy as ever!

In this picture, Baily and Mesa are enjoying the new bed we bought!

I'm back in Alaska for a couple days. No pups :( I found this picture on my Mother-In-Law's computer and it made me smile so I thought that I would share.
We are spending the afternoon in her backyard in this picture. This was a favorite play location for the girls when we lived up here. They especially loved the garden. When the plants weren't in the ground yet the girls loved to run through the dirt. Once the plants started to grow Baily loved to scavenge for food! Once she learned how to pull up the carrots there was no turning back.

Hiking Time

Took the girls hiking for the first time since we left AK. It was very interesting as they are not at all used to hiking in this heat and the trails are not what we are used to. We were only able to go for an hour since it was so warm and after three hours at home they were ready to go out for more play. This is a huge change from when we used to be able to hike 6 hours and they didn't get out of bed for a couple of days!

On the left is a picture from one of my favorite AK hikes, Near Point

Princess Baily

Moving to CA has been a huge change for the dogs. The heat has been a new experience (they were both born and raised in Alaska) and Baily has decided that she hates it. Baily has always been the princess. The world revolves around giving her attention.

As a pup, my coworkers would let her sleep on their desks in the sunshine rather than in her bed under my desk. The people at the adoption fair said she was a special puppy who always wanted to be held.

So now Baily spends her days making sure she has the best of everything and gets attention from everyone.

The best things in life

The best thing in life? Walking through the door to smiling faces and wagging tails. Today Mesa decided that I should have her bone so she put it on my face when I was laying on the sofa.

I guess I should introduce the main characters of this blog, Baily and Mesa.

Baily was the first dog to join our family. We got her from rescue when she was only seven weeks old (2/9/07 is her birthday). She is a boxer/pit bull mix who grew up sleeping under my desk at work. Her hobbies include sleeping and snuggling.

Mesa was adopted three months later from animal control. Mesa was about 8 months when we got her so we picked 11/13/06 as her birthday. She is a pit bull/American bulldog mix who grew up in a crate (her first owners didn't socialize her or let her out much). Now that Mesa has discovered the wonder of balls we can't get her to stop playing fetch!
