Playing Favorites

I know I know I shouldn't have a favorite but I have to say that Baily is my heart dog :) She came from rescue at just 7 weeks of age (too young but she was dumped). I took her to work with me everyday. She would sleep under my desk and then we would go to the big dog park behind the office. Alaska dog parks are not what people are used to when thinking of a dog park. This was a lake that had a trail around it, soccer fields and open running space but no fences so you got to see all sorts of wildlife. After our loop she would return to sleeping under my desk, in a chair if I had meetings or on a coworkers desk if it was sunny out (I didn't have a window). Sometimes I would find her curled up with 120lb chocolate lab Frodo. Baily is truly my baby, though she loves anyone who will give her attention.

Mesa is the favorite of everyone else. You may think I am exaggerating but its true. Maybe its the big blocky head or the "not all there" mental thing but people love her. It could also be that she doesn't have as many of the spoiled brat habits that Baily does ;) She also has a lot of personality which helps her cause. Mesa never got the joy of going to work with me everyday nor do I think she would have been a good candidate to go into a super stimulated work place so that may have put a bit of a damper on our relationship. Mesa is my sports watching buddy though. Always game to sit on the sofa and watch some football. Don't get me wrong, I love the Mesa Moose but she is my number 2 dog.

I feel kinda guilty admitting this, though when I look back on my blog there is a lot more about Mesa than Baily so maybe I am trying to make up for it!

Tomorrow is the Rose Bowl. We have our tickets and are on our way to cheer on my Buckeyes! Happy New Year to all :)

There is no shame in having a favorite. I've never understood why any of us are expected to love everyone equally. It's silly. You love who you love the way you love for whatever reasons. And it's okay.

I don't think there's anything wrong with having a favorite. If I had multiple dogs, I think I would, too!

Have a wonderful new year!

Hello Kari,

I think your dogs would understand what you mean. all the dogs here at Harry's know how much he loves us all,, but I think they know I'm his favorite too. It doesn't mean he loves them any less, just that he loves me a little bit more, because we've been together so long and spend so much of our lives together.

Thank you for voting for me too. I'm a bit surprised the vote was accepted as the poll doesn't open until the 1st January. Maybe you might have to do it again once the date changes?

Lots of love, Happy New Year and thanks again.

Tilly

I just bet that if you could listen to what those two whisper in their hearts each of them would feel as though they were number one and the other was number two. In my book, you are number one for rescuing your pets. No greater calling in my heart for a human being...whether you rescue dogs, cats or other humans.

It is okay to love us differently cause we are not all the same. I know my mom loves me best, but that does not mean she loves Banjo less. Us doggies understand.

We wish you all a New Year of love, health and happiness!

Bijou

Our relationships with people are what make us feel guilty about having favorites; the animals have no idea. It's not like you're hurting one to love the other. You love your dogs and that's obvious. One has just touched you a little deeper, and a little differently - that happens all the time, and it's fine. Now have a happy New Year and continue being the great dog mom you obviously are!

Pibble says it nicely. We have favorites at our house too, but I feel it's justified because each person has a differant favorite dog. It does make me wonder if this happens with parents also.

I can relate as, although Bilbo is the oldest...Dory is my heart dog...I don't think it is something that we choose...I think it is a "connection"...

Happy New Year!!

I have a soft spot for Jack - I think it is because everyone else loves Patrick. Jack is not very social, so everything thinks he's always rude - but at home he is the most loveable guy. So, I have a soft spot for Jack and Jared clearly favours Patrick!

I respect and admire you for admitting to this.

I know that Sassy is Hubby's favorite (Daddy's Girl), so I have a special place in my heart for Zack and Buddy. The boys are both rescued pups, so that makes them more special to me too. I volunteered at the shelter when Buddy was brought in...I intended to foster him, but knew he had found his fur-ever home w/ us after his first day here.
I love them each for their unique personalities. They all know how important they are to me and that's most important!
Hugs and rubs to all the pups,
~K

It is so cool how different all of us dogs are, and how certain people like certain personalities.

Our Great Gram graduated from Ohio State so we are cheering too!

Thank you for saying it. I think most of us have a favorite, society just tells us its not okay. I have my favorite, Jessie. My husband found her dumped in the middle of a country road to weak to walk anymore. I adore her. I love our pup, Squirt too. He just doesn't own my heart. Your blog is wonderful. Keep it up. :)
